Renigunta Movie Review @ 2.75/5

Cast: Johnny, Sanusha, Nishanth, Sandeep and others
Direction: Panneerselvam
Production: Suresh Kondeti
Music: Ganesh Ragavedra
Aplive.net Rating :2.75/5
Story:
Renigunta tells the story of 5 young men who are at large after having escaped from prison. They land up in Renigunta after their journey to Mumbai goes awry midway. They stay on as they find Renigunta a fertile ground for their activities which mainly consist of carrying out murders as per order. They are ruthless assassins who will kill anyone for a fee, it seems. But, how did they turn out to be the criminals that they are? That is where Renigunta can make people do some soul searching. The process of creating a criminal out of a very normal youngster is masterminded by the society; first by preferring to keep quiet when he needs help and then by hurriedly branding him as a criminal the moment he tries to raise a voice for himself. With no alternative left, the young man turns to the only people who will accept him into their fold, they are people who have already been branded criminals by the society. The like minded and similarly affected youngsters join together knowing that their only hope of a future is by intimidating others into submission and they pick up arms, turning into full fledged assassins.
The process of a criminal’s evolution is told through the life of newcomer Johnny who is the son of a law abiding dutiful police officer who gets involved in a pretty dangerous case. Johnny’s dad’s conscientiousness costs him his life as well as his wife’s. Only Johnny is left alone. No one comes to his help, no one fights for justice and the frustrated and angry young man tries to wreak revenge. But, too small and too weak for the evil forces, he is branded as a criminal and put behind bars. Again, neither the law nor the society turns to help him. Labeled as a criminal and facing torture in jail, he finds refuge in a band of four young men who have already turned the corner and accepted lives on the wrong side of the law. The quintet sets off on the journey that takes them to Renigunta.
The film is not all about crime and violence. Even if these elements form the major portion and the moving force of the narrative, the finer emotions within the minds of the youngsters is also shown. There is a muted love story (literally) that blossoms between Johnny and a girl in Renigunta who cannot speak. It is understated for most part but the feelings are effectively communicated. The other four associates of Johnny realize this and implore him to leave their company with her so that he can have a normal life. Fine strands of friendship can be felt here. The character of the girl’s elder sister who has been forced, partly by circumstances and mostly by her drunk husband into being a prostitute also leaves an impact. In spite of her sufferings she wants to make sure that her sibling gets a peaceful life. The climax carries the typical message that crime never pays.
Techinical Aspects :
The director (Paneerselvam) has delivered what he set out to give. He has not diluted the theme or deviated from it for commercial considerations. The amount of violence seems to be justified by the script; one cannot point out a place where it seems forced. Having said that, the A certificate is completely justified and the movie is certainly not for very young people or those who are looking for regular entertainers. It is dark and grim most of the time. Scenes are gory and at times can leave even men accustomed to such movies with a grimace.
The young cast, mostly newcomers have done a fine job. Johnny and Sanusha do their parts well; the former impresses in spite of having very few dialogues. But, it is the young handicapped man who impresses the most, especially in dialogue delivery.
Technically the movie is adequate. Camerawork suits the mood of the movie for most parts while music does not find too much of a place in spite of a few songs in the film. Dialogues are definitely praiseworthy.
Verdict :
Renigunta is not a movie made with commercial intentions in mind. Though violence and brutality are constants throughout the movie, it is neither superficial nor forced. The message that the director set out to convey has been said effectively, the society’s role in making criminals out of promising young men has been shown, the third degree treatment meted out to accused prisoners is depicted and the helplessness of such people is well portrayed. It is bound to get noticed in the non-commercial circles. Watch it if you can stomach some undiluted portrayal of violence, third degree and the dark side of life on the wrong side of law. It is not for the regular entertainment seekers nor advisable for those few who believe in mimicking on screen exploits in real life.

tamil cinema moved towards realistic cinema with commercial values with Ananthapuram 1980(Subramainiapuram in tamil).
Recently released Sangharshana(porali in tamil) is also one such example.
Renigunta was made 2.5 yrs ago and now released in telugu, which shows the plight of telugu cinema.
Tamil makers are strongly believing that telugu movies are only formula flicks and they dont satisfy type of viewers.
So, 5 yrs old movie paruthiveeran is now dubbed as Malligadu with poster as 'Blockbuster of 2012'.
Story : Siva is a happy-go-lucky guy, but his father Sethupathi, a clerk, has great dreams that his son should become a successful engineer. Realizing Siva’s inability to be outstanding in studies due to his limited brainpower, his father stops compelling him to become an engineer; rather, he inspires him to choose any vocation he can shine in! Siva’s peaceful family life suddenly vanishes when his parents are brutally murdered (in front of him and an apathetic public) by Kathir, prime accused of a murder case in which Siva’s father was a key eyewitness. Broken up by the painful and tragic loss of his loving parents, Siva decides to take revenge, but in vain. He is caught in his murder attempt due to his inexperience and remanded for 14 days.
Due to his shy nature, Siva has to undergo severe harassments from the jail guards, where he meets four young, inborn criminals including lame Dabba and fat guy Pandu. He becomes friendly with them only to avoid torment from the jailers. Siva has no plans to join the group, but at the same time, is greatly attracted by their love and concerns. The four guys plan to escape from jail; at the last moment, they forcibly take Siva to the world of freedom and gradually introduce him to a criminal life.
In flashback, the guys come to know about Siva’s past and decide to kill Kathir. After executing Kathir, the five friends take a train to Mumbai to avoid the police special force, but fate leads them to a local don in Renigunta (near Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh). In Renigunta, Siva meets a dumb girl (Sanusha) and love slowly blossoms between them. In fact, the girl’s brother-in-law is a pimp, procuring for his own wife. Realizing her husband’s intention to introduce her dumb sister into the fresh trade, the akka requests Siva to elope with her younger sister. With the consent his friends, Siva fixes a date to leave the place with his lover.
Meanwhile, the local don hires these five friends to kill a prominent contractor, leading to a big twist in the whole story. The murder attempt fails; Pandu is beaten to death on the spot by contractor’s security guards. The special force swoops down on the rest of the teammates who are brutally killed one by one, except for Siva. Whether he manages to escape from the police and accomplish his dream of a peaceful life with his lover forms the rest of the film.
One can’t say that Renigunta only has bloody violence; it also has plenty of (black) comedy, romance and sentiments, and all components are convincingly presented.
credit to director Paneerselvam for presenting this realistic movie with gripping screenplay.
Manavaallu inkaa, mass, full length comedy antoo mosam cheyakunda, atleast small budget movies ayina experiments cheydam start cheste better.

Renigunta Movie story : The story is set in the village of Tharigonda and Shiva (Johny) is seen as a young guy who tries to take revenge on a local rowdy called Khadar. Khadar is responsible for the deaths of the Shiva’s parents and that is the reason for the enmity. Shiva’s attempts on the life of Khadar land him in jail. During his stay, Shiva becomes a good friend of Pandu and his friends. As part of a strategy, they escape from the jail in order to reach Mumbai. But circumstances force them to end up in Renigunta.
The gang carries out a series of murders in the town and there is a motive behind the murders. During this time, Shiva comes across Sanusha and falls in loveinstantly. Sanusha is seen as a girl who is forced into marriage against her wishes in order to solve the financial problems of her family. Why does Shiva carry out the murders and what will he do for Sanusha? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points :
The artistes in this movie are mostly newcomers. But they do an admirable job. Johny is good as the timid guy Shiva who is forced to enter a world of crime. Sanusha is excellent as the girl who can’t speak. Her excellent performance is complemented by her good looks.
Theepetti Ganeshan is good as the physically challenged person and he brings a few laughs. Though the movie is a Tamil flick, efforts have been made to bring about an element of Telugu nativity. The first half is breezy and the goodbackground score actually brings an element of suspense to the proceedings.
Ace director V.V.Vinayak’s voice over is an advantage and the pre-climax scenes have been shot well.
Minus Points :
The actors are seen with wild hair and torn clothing. While this is good for authenticity and realistic portrayal, it wont work with Telugu crowds. The second half does not sustain the tempo of the first half and this is disappointing.
The excessive length of the film also works against it. The sad endings seen in all Tamil flicks is a big minus. The production values are very poor and the songs are extremely bad. In addition to this , their timing is even worse. They just spoil the flow.
Care should have been taken in dubbing.
Technical Aspects :
Editing is ok in the first half but should have been better in the second half. Cinematography is alright. Background score is good but the songs are bad.Dialogues are just about ok.
Verdict :
The movie will not appeal to everyone because of the way it is shot. The excessive length, poor climax and Tamil nativity will offset the good performances and racy first half. Watch this movie only if you are a die hard fan of Tamil flicks.

Paneerselvam’s Renigunta (2012) Movie Review
Cast: Johny,Sanusha,Sandeep,Ganesan,Thamizh,Nishant
Language: Telugu
Director: Paneerselvam
Producer: Suresh Kondeti
Music Director: Ganesh Ragavedran
Story-line:
Siva (Johny) sees his parents killed before his own eyes but when he goes to take revenge on the rowdy who did the deed, it is he who is sent off to jail because of the rowdy’s connections. He meets criminal boys (Nishant, Ganesan, Thamizh and Sandeep), who help him escape and also get his revenge. The five take the train with the intention of moving to Mumbai but end up in Renigunta instead, where they are recruited by a man who knew them in the past. Sakthi also meets a deaf and dumb girl(Sanusha), who makes him yearn for a more normal life.
Performances:
Johny fits the character perfectly. Nishant, Ganesan, Thamizh, Sandeep did well, provided decent situational humor too. Heroine Sanusha is impressive. Acting wise everyone did a fine job.
Technical Support:
Screenplay of the film is very decorous. The sequence of scenes in the first half is very skillful. Direction of thse film is average and predictable. Music by Ganesh Raghavendra is fine. Dialogues lack punch. Cinematography is neat. Dubbing is decent. V.V.Vinayak voice over is good. Photography is adequate. The runtime of 155minutes is very lengthy. Crisp editing could have made the flick more appropriate for watching in Telugu. The film is good scene wise; one gets a feeling that the screenplay is not gripping enough to grab the attention of viewer to maintain it till the end of the film. The direction of the movie is clean. Narration of the film lacks pace and spice. Production values are good.
Survi Verdict:
First half starts of slow, but movie provides situation entertainment with right propositions towards intermission. There is a fair to middling in the second half and it picks towards pre climax, but climax falls flat. Pace of the film is very slow. Positives of Renigunta are Performances, Situational scenes, First Half and on the flip side it’s Drags in between, Tamil Nativity, Climax and Run Time. On the whole, Renigunta is worth a watch movie for those who don’t mind watching Tragic, Violent and Raw Tamil Flick.
Survi Review: 2.5/5 (0.5 more for decent First Half)
Tit-Bit: Movie a sort of inspired from “City of Gold”.

Renigunta Movie Review
9th March 2012 · 0 Comments
Not for Tollywood movie lovers or Andhra Pradesh in general !
Story: Movie starts with a scene in which Police chasing down a gang of five prisoners escaped from jail. Among them one is Siva (Johnny) and a girl (Sanusha) is waiting in Railway Station for Siva, as Siva sees her, he goes into his flash back. VV Vinayak has given voice for the whole flashback in the film.
The flashback scene starts in a in a village where shiva was living happily with his family while his dad works a PWD officer. Siva’s father wants to see him as a engineer but Siva has interest only in foot ball. Unfortunately, Siva’s parents got killed by a roudy sheeter called Khadar. From then Siva wants to take revenge on Khadar for his parent’s death, and he attempts to kill Khadar while in this issue he got arrested and sent to jail. In the jail Siva got four criminal friends, and they want to live their own life by escaping from the jail.
As soon as they escaped from the prison Siva killed Khadar who is the cause of his parent’s death. Starting with khadar they will kill so many people but there is a reason for every murder. They have become contract killers wanted to settle as Mumbai assassins. As they want to reach Mumbai their fortunes stop them in the Renigunta as they meet the mediator of whom they have got the supari. During this Siva falls in love with a deaf and dumb girl who has her own financial problems. When Siva stops murders and what he will do for the girl he loves, forms the rest of the story.
Analysis: Screenplay and Direction are focused only on negative side of the roles in the film. The Editing should be better in the second half as it was very slow which makes audience feel bored. Production work is just ok while Cinematography was alright. The village background shown was very realistic. The voice over given by VV Vinayak for the flashback was a plus point. Background score is good but the songs are bad. Dialogues are just about ok. Though the actors of the movie are the new comers, they have performed well and good. Johny’s performance as a criminal was very realistic and Sanusha showed her best as a deaf and dumb girl. Theepetti Ganeshan acted very well as physically challenged person and he brings a few laughs in the movie.
Conclusion: The movie has not brought appeal as it was released on non commercial values. There was overdose of crime as the roles were just the young. The first half of the movie was interesting while the second half is just ok as the climax was dragged. The movie can be watched only for the entertainment.
Verdict: Movie can be watched only Watch this movie only if the people are diehard fans of Tamil flicks as it is not suitable for Telugu people.

All the new comers in the film acquit themselves well. Johny and Sanusha have talent and the potential. All others are passable.
The Techniques
This dark story does not have sufficient justification for the killings and thus the revenge motivation lacks conviction. Similarly, there is no compulsive cause for the lead character to turn a contract killer. Episodes are conceived to contrive meaningless violence. The translation and dubbing is of poor quality. Music is irrelevant to this narration. Cinematography is good.

The Verdict
Themes like innocent youth being dragged into crime have been explored in innumerable movies. Renigunta, trying to be realistic, ends up as a crude attempt to state what everyone knows, ie, crime doesn’t pay. It is a dark film that tends to be gloomy.
You can watch Renigunta when it gets aired on TV.

Renigunta Movie Review
A few young men run from the clutches of the cops as the hen crows at dawn. One is killed and while the other runs frantically for his life he recollects his past. The story chronicles the lives of five youth who escape from prison and become vindictive and barbarous killers who'd do anything for money.
Johnny's parents are killed right in front of his eyes and as a school going kid attempts to seek revenge and is handed over to the police, each of them has a history but Johnny's life forms the crux of the story. It is in prison that director Panneerselvam draws sympathy for the five characters who are given third degree treatment and escape only to become hardcore criminals.
There might have been many movies on violence but what grabs ones attention is the sheer treatment of the story, it makes the people think right from scene one the haplessness of the victim, the circumstances that lead him into killing and the society's approach to such people. At the end of the film you end up walking away with the feeling that the common man who creates such a situation favourable to crime are far bigger sinners.
Johnny's tryst with the weapon when he is first compelled to kill by his friends shows the angst, the quandary, the moral dilemma of a youth whose bright future has been sabotaged by a mindless act of one man.
There is a silent romance too that happens between Johnny and Sanusha, the muted love and the glares they exchange which is a bit of a drag but a welcome deviation from the harsh reality. Sanusha has a touching story as well, the pretty actor expresses her feelings only through gestures and her moist eyes, the final scene at the railway station where she sits with her bag of clothes playing with the pictures of deities and waiting for Johnny is a perfect finish, the director couldn't have ended the film better.
Many Tamil films based on violence are repulsive because of it's extremities but this one sucks you in with it's unique approach, they never once seem superficial.
The songs are aptly placed, the first one comes after the first killing, the celebration that happens after avenging the death. The boys travelling in the train without tickets and beating up the collector evokes a gentle humour and so does their wooing of the girls at the temple. The story is thrilling at times and forces your attention to such a subject.
This one could work for people who appreciate good cinema and not those who seek regular, formulaic escapist stories; it also runs a risk of running commercially at the BO.

Final Verdict :
Renigunta is not a movie made with commercial intentions in mind. Though violence and brutality are constants throughout the movie, it is neither superficial nor forced. The message that the director set out to convey has been said effectively good to see at once.

Suresh Kondeti has tasted success with dubbed films before, like ‘Journey’, and he has brought one more dubbed offering before Telugu crowds today in the form of Renigunta. Themovie has been directed by Paneer Selvam. Johny and Sanusha will be seen as the lead actors along with Nishanth. Let us see how the movie is.
Story :
The story is set in the village of Tharigonda and Shiva (Johny) is seen as a young guy who tries to take revenge on a local rowdy called Khadar.
During this time, Shiva comes across Sanusha and falls in love instantly.
The first half is breezy and the good background score actually brings an element of suspense to the proceedings.
Background score is good but the songs are bad. Dialogues are just about ok.
Verdict :
The movie will not appeal to everyone because of the way it is shot. The excessive length, poor climax and Tamil nativity will offset the good performances and racy first half. Watch thismovie only if you are a die hard fan of Tamil flicks.

Renigunta - Movie Review Mar 8, 2012 - 1:40:24 PM |
Cast: Johnny, Sanusha, Nishant, Theepetti Ganesan, Tamizh, Sandeep and others Music: Ganesh Raghavendra Cinematography: Sakthi Editing: Anthony Produced by: Suresh Kondeti Directed by: Panner Selvam Renigunta is Telugu dubbed version of 2009 Tamil film by the same name. Like most of the recent Tamil dubbed movie, Ananthapuram 1980and Telugu film Shambo Siva Shambo, this film too has excessive violence and focuses on dark sides of society.
The film also deals with the crimes made by Juveniles and the inhuman police system. The story goes like this: A gang of five prisoners escape from jail and plan to go to Mumbai but land in Renigunta town. The Juvenile crime gang headed by Siva (Johnny) carries out series of murders in town and Siva also falls in love with a girl (Sanusha) in the same town. Rest of the drama is all about the motives of the gang and how these teenagers landed into crime world.
With a voice over given by top director VV Vinayak, the film starts off well. Till the interval the movie sustains interest. Post interval, with its lengthy run time, the film loses its steam as the story is very wafer thin and director Pannerselvam's screenplay lacks fizz.
Heavily inspired by Latin American film City of God, Renigunta has some interesting episodes too. The film has very realistic feel.
Regarding performances, all the actors are newcomers and they have fitted to the roles. Johnny andSanusha make a good impression in the lead roles. The actor who played the role of short guy has provided some comedy and he is good at it too.
Cinematography (by Siva) is good. Songs are mediocre but background score (Ganesh Raghavendra) is okay. Anthony's editing pattern is in sync with the genre of the movie. Producer Suresh Kondeti seems to have re-shot some portions to make it more local.
On the whole, Renigunta is an off-beat film with dark-theme.
