Renigunta
is Telugu dubbed version of 2009 Tamil film by the same name. Like most of the recent Tamil dubbed movie, Ananthapuram 1980and Telugu film Shambo Siva Shambo, this film too has excessive violence and focuses on dark sides of society.
The film also deals with the crimes made by Juveniles and the inhuman police system. The story goes like this: A gang of five prisoners escape from jail and plan to go to Mumbai but land in Renigunta town. The Juvenile crime gang headed by Siva (Johnny) carries out series of murders in town and Siva also falls in love with a girl (Sanusha) in the same town. Rest of the drama is all about the motives of the gang and how these teenagers landed into crime world.
With a voice over given by top director VV Vinayak, the film starts off well. Till the interval the movie sustains interest. Post interval, with its lengthy run time, the film loses its steam as the story is very wafer thin and director Pannerselvam's screenplay lacks fizz.
Heavily inspired by Latin American film City of GodRenigunta has some interesting episodes too. The film has very realistic feel.
Regarding performances, all the actors are newcomers and they have fitted to the roles. Johnny andSanusha make a good impression in the lead roles. The actor who played the role of short guy has provided some comedy and he is good at it too.
Cinematography (by Siva) is good. Songs are mediocre but background score (Ganesh Raghavendra) is okay. Anthony's editing pattern is in sync with the genre of the movie. Producer Suresh Kondeti seems to have re-shot some portions to make it more local.
On the whole, Renigunta is an off-beat film with dark-theme.
Rating: 2.75/5
