Renigunta Review
Red and racy

If a film is made on a group of youngsters, then it should be about male bonding, one of the friends
doing the comedian role, petty politicians, contract killers and unfulfilled love et al.

Toeing the line of this Subramaniapuram success formula is debutant director Panneerselvam's Renigunta, a film
which is racy but with full of violence from the word go. The reason is- the movie is about young criminals who
escape from a prison.

Sakthi (Johnny, son of producer NIC Arts Chakravarthy) is a playful boy, whose parents are killed by an
anti-social. When he tries to take revenge, he is sent to prison, where he meets Pandu (Nishanth), Dabba
(Theeppetti Ganesan), Mari (Thamizh) and Michael (Sandeep).

The youngsters escape from the prison and decide to go to Mumbai. However, fate makes them land in
Renigunta, a town in Andhra Pradesh, where they work for a don and his aides.

In the meantime, Sakthi finds his ladylove (Sanusha) in Renigunta. What follows is a sequence of scenes dipped
in violence which takes you to a bloody climax.

Johnny and his team emote well. Though they are newfaces, their performance is neat and up to the mark.
Equally good is Sanusha. Music by Ganesh Raghavendra passes the muster. The camera of Sakthi is good.

Though the theme, which precisely says 'criminals are not born, but made' is good, the way in which
Panneerselvam narrated the story, would not be welcomed by 'family audience', especially women thanks
to gory scenes. Otherwise, Renigunta, produced by Mahendrakumar, would have been a preferred destination.
